A Time of Change: 200 Days of Service

Time is flying right along these days. Everyone and everything seems to be racing towards the next great milestone in life. Each day we are a little bit closer to the day when that next great thing will happen. 2012 will soon be coming to an end and with it a year of major changes for many of us. So far, my family's biggest event has been our son graduating from high school, turning 18, and then entering the Navy's boot camp. Yes, in a few short weeks he will no longer wear the title of "recruit" but will be a full fledged sailor in the Navy. It's totally bizarre to even try to comprehend. I can't put into words how proud of him I am. He's been gone a month now and it will be a another month before I get to see him in his uniform at PIR (graduation). I can't wait. It's okay with me if time wants to zoom by quickly.

I have a feeling that most of you reading this blog have another life changing event in common with me; David Archuleta's two year service mission for his church. Although many of us were caught off guard by David's announcement last December, most of us weren't surprised that he would choose to serve. It took a while for us to get used to the fact that we wouldn't see and hear from David in-the-flesh for a while, but I think most of us are doing pretty good adjusting to the new game plan now.

The day David entered the MTC in Provo, two years seemed like such a long time away, but now that over 1/4 of the time has already passed, those 24 months don't sound so bad. This Sunday, October 14, 2012 marks the 200th day of service for David. Two hundred days have flown by at record speed. I bet the rest of the 18 months will fly by too.

In honor of David's 200th day of service, I have created something a little different than my normal ramblings (unless you chose to count this intro as my rambling). I have used the titles of the tracks from David's albums and some of the songs David has performed for us since his initial appearance on Idol to create a sort of name collage. Who knew you could actually fit 200 words into the name "DAVID?" Those 200 words come from 79 song titles. See if you can find them all.
