American Idol 12: Top 20- The Girls Perform

We're still in Vegas this week as the Top 20 are chopped to the Top 10. Now "America"  (or anyone else with a smart phone or internet access) can vote for their favorites. There is a new power voting method with the American Idol app. You can place 50 votes with the app or on the AI website.

Zoanette Johnson- "What's Love Got To Do With It" by Tina Turner.
Poor Zoanette, nobody told her she can't really sing, especially not Tina Turner. She's way off pitch and there's the crazy warbling sound again. Would someone please stop her.  And there it is, the judges have officially thrown her under the AI bus. They all hate the performance. It wouldn't be so bad if they had been honest with her before now. The highlight of this performance- Zoanette's new wig.

Breanna Steer- "Flaws and All" by Beyonce.
I don't know the song, but it sounds pretty. Kind of mellow for this stage of the game, but not terrible.  Keith thinks it's a good performance. Nicki hates it and says that was totally the wrong song. Randy and Mariah think it was a safe choice.

Aubrey Cleland- "Big Girls Don't Cry" by Fergie.
I like the girl, but the song was bland.  Keith wishes the song had some moments. Nicki loves her (we don't know about the song). Randy says she has a Rihanna vibe. Mariah says she has multi-platinum potential. I wonder if they were listening to the same performance I was.

Janelle Arthur- "If I Can Dream" by Elvis.
Why don't I know this song? It's definitely country. It sound ok but it felt like she was missing something. No big moments in the song. Keith loves her classic country voice. Nicki says "You are a little marshmallow that I want to eat." Randy loves the old throwback thing in her voice. Mariah says she has an "America's Sweetheart" vibe.

Tenna Torres- Lost Lyrics" by Faith Hill.
She is wearing an ugly dress. I can't understand half of the words. She is distracted by the camera and has pitch problems. Over all- blech. Keith loves the song choice but caught the camera distracting her. Nicki loves her hair and her boobs (no idea about song). Randy says nicely done (obviously he was distracted too.) Mariah loved the song choice and the richness of her lower register.

Angie Miller- "Never Gone" by Colton Dixon.
Angie is at the piano and killing the song. She will be a Christian artist for sure. Keith says "That was beautiful." Nicki "the trumpets should sound when you walk into the room little girl." Randy "America, a star is born on that stage right now." Mariah loved the song choice and was happy she was back at the piano.

Amber Holcomb- "I Believe in You and Me" by Whitney Houston.
Amber obviously didn't see the article by Brian Mansfield about the 10 Commandments of American Idol. Don't sing Whitney.  I'm surprised. She doesn't sound bad. This isn't a major power ballad so that helps. Keith says it was the perfect song for her. Nicki loves the runs. Randy "Amber is in it to win it." Mariah "You are one of my favorites."

Kree Harrison- "Stronger" by Faith Hill.
Wow, this is even better than Angie. Kree nails those really high notes. Keith loves it. Nicki says Kree is her wife (yuck). Randy says she's in it to win it. Mariah is always surprised by her.

Adriana Latonio- "Stand Up For Love" by Destiny's Child.
I have never heard this song before. I don't like it for Idol. way to schmaltzy. She is trying to be Jessica Sanchez and it's not happening. And I didn't like Jessica that much either. This is a dull song. Keith is nervous about the song choice. Nicki says that was very pageant performance and suggests she work at it some more and come back next year. Randy "You were boring." Maraih says she needed to be more soulful. It was the wrong song.

Candice Glover- "Ordinary People" by John Legend.
Finally a contemporary song from her. Nice job. I like it. Keith loves her blend of old soul and contemporary. Nicki just salutes her. Randy "I'm learning listening to you." and suggest we might need a wildcard or something. (foreshadowing???) Mariah is team Candice.

And there you have it. Now America votes.

My votes go to Angie, Kree and Candice. To round out the 5, I pick Amber and Janelle.

Tonight we hear from the guys and Thursday we get the results for all.
