American Idol 12: The Top 20 Results

The Top 20 have performed over two nights and "America" has voted. Now it is time to see who advances. The 20 are chopped down to 10 on this show.  These will be the 10 on tour this summer. (Unless TPTB throw in something else before the show is over.)

So there is a new format for this results episode. Ryan explains that this year the top 10 girls and the top 10 guys are being sequestered backstage in separate rooms and will be revealed to America and the studio audience one at a time. Ryan is the only person who knows the results. (And maybe the people who tabulated the voting results for him, and probably Nigel , who manipulated the results for him.)

Time for the guys results, but first we must suffer through a recap reel of the "highlights" from the guys performances.

The first guy in the Top 10 is ..... Paul Jolley. (I think Paul is even more surprised than I am.) Ryan walks Paul through the not so pretty backstage area, tells him that America now knows he is in the Top 10, but the audience and judges don't. The doors slide open to cheers from the audience.  Paul looks like he might pass out (just like Bieber did in London). Now Paul must sing a "victory song." He chooses "Alone" by Heart. Did Ryan say this is a victory song. Hummm.  Well, at least Paul was on my list of hopefuls in the Top 10.

The next guy through is Burnell Taylor.  Burnell sings "Ready for Love." I 'm not too sure of this "victory song" thing. This is the first song Burnell has sung that I haven't liked. Did these guys get to practice with the band?  Well, Burnell is on my list of hopefuls, so I'm 2 for 2.

The third guy in the Top 10 is ..... Curtis Finch Jr.  BOOOOOOOO. The one person I really don't like in the entire competition. Oh well. Curtis sings "So High" by John Legend. He just ruined a perfectly good song. Well, it looks like we will be subjected to Mr Conceited again.  Thanks Nigel; Now I'm 2 for 3.

Ryan heads back to get the fourth guy. Poos Charlie looks like he might throw up. The #4 guy is Mr. Bilingual- Devin Velez.  Devin sings "the Power of One" by Israel Houghton, a Christian Contemporary song. He sings in English only. What a great performance.   Devin was on my list, so now I'm 3 for 4.

And the #5 spot goes to ....... Lazaro Arbos, of course. Instead of freaking out at the doors like everyone else has, Lazaro has some last minute instructions for Ray chew and the band, since they did not rehearse the ending of his song.  And when Ryan announces Lazaro to the Idol studio audience, the crowd jumps to their feet and goes wild.  With the mic now shoved into his hands by Ryan, Lazaro proceeds to sing "Bridge Over Troubled Water. " It is definitely a very rough performance, but Lazaro is still appreciated by the crowd.

So this "victory song" thing needs a different title (and a lot of polishing) because no one would have won any singing competition with these performances, but, Hey, they are in the Top 10 for Season 12 of American Idol .

Finally, it's time for the girl's results to be revealed.

The first girl in the Top 10 is Janelle Arthur. Ms. Bubbly takes the stage and sings "Home" by Dierks Bentley. She does a really nice job on this "victory" song. Probably the best I have heard from Janelle.
Oh, and yes, Janelle was on my list. YES.

The second girl is Candice Glover. Candice is freaking out and jumping around like crazy.(Please don't wear a strapless top again girl.) Candice sings "I'm Going Down" by Mary J Blige. She is really good and I am 2 for 2 on the girls.

The third girl is Colton Dixon's buddy, Angie Miller.  As if there were ever any doubt. Angela sings "I Was Here" by Beyonce. I've heard her sound better, but it is really difficult to sing when crying. Keith is crying too.  I'm not crying because I'm 3 for 3 with the girls.

The fourth girl is ..... Amber Holcomb. Awesome. I wanted her to advance but didn't think America would be that smart. "I'm Every Woman" by Whitney Houston is her song. She sounds good but I hope someone steers her away her all these Whitney songs. Hey, I'm 4 for 4.

And the last sop in the Top 10 for Season 12 of American Idol goes to.... Kree Harrison. Yes!!! and Kree is looking like a pro tonight. She is dressed for success and the camera's show us her boyfriend in the audience. (We needed to know that she is not Nicki's wife after all.) Kree's "victory song" is "Evidence" by Susan Tedeschi. Kree has shown a nice uptempo song to end the results show.  Yeah Kree.

And there we have it. The top 10 Idols who will be on tour this summer, and one of whom will be crowned the champion, are:
Paul Jolley
Burnell Taylor
Curtis Finch Jr
Devin Velez
Lazaro Arbos
Janelle Arthur
Candice Glover
Angela Miller
Amber Holcomb
Kree Harrison

Oh, wait a minute. Ryan has some info on this years weird Idol switch-up.
There will be a sing-off next week between the # 6 girl and the #6 guy for a spot on the summer tour. We find out next week who gets to sing. So it sounds like this #11 person will get to tour but not perform any more this season. that's different. Oh Nigel, you always have something up your sleeve, don't you?

Well, I did a great job on my predictions this time.  I was 5 for 5 on the girls and 4 for 5 on the guys. Score!!!!!

See y'all next week for more Idol mayhem.
