American Idol 13: Hollywood Week Intro

Last week I said I would try to post the names of the contestants who received Golden Tickets, but I have decided 212 names are a bit much too complicated for the time I have available to post right now. These names can be found on Idol's web site anyway.

Right now I want to let you in on some Idol info I have learned before the Hollywood shows begin airing this week.

#1-  Tonight's episode is Hollywood or Home.  The contestants are not safe yet. Last week Idol gave viewers a little sneak peek at an airplane hanger. All of the golden ticket winners arrive at an airplane hanger and are told some will have to perform "right now" to earn their way to the Dolby Theater where Hollywood rounds will be held. The ones who don't make it fly home the next day. Rumor has it 60 contestants, including all those who received only 2 stars, sing-for-their-lives.

#2- The rest of the rounds of Hollywood Week take place at the Dolby Theater. The first solo rounds show each contestant performing a cappella in lines of 10 or so people.

#3- Next up are the group rounds. These are the songs which will be used for the group rounds:
“I Want It That Way” by The Backstreet Boys
“I Want You Back” by The Jackson 5
“Royals” by Lorde
“Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)” by Beyoncé
“Treasure” by Bruno Mars

#4- After groups we will have the final solo performances where contestants will either accompany themselves and/or perform with the Idol band. Here the contestants will be narrowed to 48.
Here are the song options for the final a cappella solos in round 4 :

#6- There is a 96 page PDF circulating with all of the songs Idol has cleared for performances this season.  Some are the same old standards used by Idol and some are actually new. We'll see which ones are actually used as the season unfolds.  Here is a link to the list thanks to
